H+ Performance Hybrid Success Stories…
Here is a little taster of just some of the Hybrid Training Challenges our incredible clients have been up to recently.
-
Jayme joined the H+ Hybrid training programme looking for guidance for his first ever 50km Ultramarathon, whilst maintaining and building strength. We also worked to build a unique strength programme working towards the challenge of lifting the Dinnie Stones at the Aboyne Games in Scotland, which weigh 332kg.
-
When we first spoke Kyle was struggling to train strength and endurance within the same programme. After 6 months of working together Kyle completed the Hybrid Foundation with a 542.5kg powerlifting total of lifetime bests and ran a 30km endurance test over Dartmoor in the same week.

When we first spoke Andreas was using two separate training programmes he'd found; one for powerlifting and one for cycling and was trying to do both of them at the same time. This lead to some repetitive injuries as he was unable to balance the training load from the two different programmes.I created a Hybrid training programme that allowed him to make progress in both fields without getting injured or burning out.
After 6 months of the Hybrid Foundation, Andreas pulled a 450kg powerlifting total and came 33rd in 10 Under the Ben, a 10 hour endurance race around Ben Nevis during test week.

When we first spoke Philip was still recovering from a serious injury and had written off ever being able to return to running.I created a programme where the initial block was strength focussed. Once we had built the required strength we moved into a Hybrid programme which allowed for a careful return to running alongside strength training.
Philip completed the Brighton Half, a 53km Mountain Ultra and a 21 minute 5km.

Not your usual Hybrid Athlete - Chloe and I worked together to create a Hybrid training programme that improves aerobic base - the benefits of which have a direct effect on her performance in competitive Long Range Target Shooting competitions.Excitingly in 2024 she won The Grand Aggregate at Bisley!
-
Adrien's hybrid goal for the year was to work on his ultra endurance whilst getting stronger. Having summited Lotse in the past Adrien had a good endurance base, but needed to incorporate more strength into his training to complete longer races. His 1:1 Hybrid Training goal was to run 100km. Annoyingly a tendonitis flare up a few days before the event meant we decided to shorten the run to 50km and save the 100km goal for another race in the not too distant future.

Patrick came to me from a mostly powerlifting background. He’d just set some PBs in all the main lifts but wanted to make a switch to Hybrid.
With a newer, much more in-depth way of approaching his running, he’s just competed the half marathon he’d set his sights on earlier this year…
But not only that, he’s also set new PBs in the main lifts to give him a incredible powerlifting total PB of 470kg.
If you’re thinking of making the switch to Hybrid Training, or have an exciting Hybrid Training goal you’d like help achieving, then book a Consultation with Henry and find out how he can help.

Another huge shift from the one and only Andreas!
This time, taking on his biggest event to date - the Further Elements 684km Scottish Ultra Cycle.
Something I say to people a lot is that training like a Hybrid Athlete opens doors. It allows you to choose from pretty wild array events to train for, and do pretty well at.
Amongst a field of experienced ultra cyclists, Andreas was able to hold his own, coming an incredible 16th out of a field that had a near 50% DNF rate due to the difficulty of the event.
We decided against going for any new powerlifting totals in the same week as the event, but safe to say that keeping three days of dedicated powerlifting strength work in the training didn’t do too much damage.
Here’s what Andreas had to say about it all:
“Henry, thanks again for the help with preparing for Further ELEMENTS - both the general physical preparedness and the event-specific advice. Loved seeing my strength numbers go up while preparing for my first ever ultra. Now excited about making new plans for 2025! Hybrid training for me is not only about the numbers, but also what it enables me to do”.
